About Sharon

Sharon O’Rourke received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Frostburg State University (1989) where she studied with Dr. Ronald Horner, and a Master of Music Degree from the University of Maryland, College Park (1993) with Ronald Barnett.
 

She is currently teaching instrumental music for Montgomery County Public Schools as well as privately in her home studio.
 

Sharon has performed with many groups including the National Orchestral Institute, the Prince George’s Philharmonic  (principal percussionist), the Georgetown Symphony, the Landon School Symphonette,  the Columbia Orchestra and the Columbia Concert Band.  She is currently beginning her twenty third season as a member of the Washington Redskins Marching Band (snare drum/line chief).
 

Professional memberships include the National Education Association, MENC: the National Association for Music Education, the Percussive Arts Society, and Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity.
